Shakshouka

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shakshouka, or Shakshuka (a word that comes from Leshakshek, a Hebrew word meaning "to shake") is a simple Israeli dish consisting of eggs, tomatoes, and onions or garlic. Similar to hummus, Shakshouka is typically eaten with a pita.

Though it is not common in Western culture, Shakshouka is found worldwide in Israeli or Sephardic dairy eateries. The dish is most commonly enjoyed for lunch. Variations include Shakshouka with green peppers or other spices. Some prepare it spicy and some mild.
