From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shake it up Şekerim pronounced as 'Shekerim', is an upcoming Turkish entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 to be held in Helsinki 2007. Turkey are hoping to do better in this year, with Kenan Doğulu recognised in Turkey as a major pop Icon. TRT decided to choose Kenan to represent their country, it was noted that Kenan had written three songs for entry into the Eurovision song contest 2007. TRT said that it was difficult to decide, but in the end they chose shake it up sekerim in favour of the other two. Kenan Dogulu later stated that he personally performed to Sezen Aksu, to see if she approved and enjoyed the song which she apparently did.

TRT had the following to say: "It was very difficult to shorten the list to three songs. We have chosen a cheerful up-tempo song. May it bring us luck".

Turkey since 2005 has been performing relatively poor in the Eurovision song contest, with the song Rimi Rimi Ley by Gulseren failing to make the top ten. Turkey hopes this year will be different. Kenan Doğulu is a very capable pop singer in Turkey proving his popularity in the summer of 2006 by producing the hit song Çakkıdı a song reminiscent of early era Hip Hop beats and slight techno music.

[edit] Chorus and lyrics

The song starts off similar to Çakkıdı with the same sort of hip hop melody that resembles Çakkıdı,Within the introduction of the song a electric guitar bass line can be heard as an introduction to get the audience excited that the song is starting. The song then blends in with Anatolian music with the indigenious Saz instrument popular among Balkan and neighbours of Turkey including Armenia, Greece, Azerbaijan and Iran. The chorus then starts with the lyrics following, whilst the song pauses at about the mid point, we can hear traditional Turkish music similar to the Horon dancers when they shout while dancing they are shouting ha ha ha hey hey hey ha ha hey hey hey taking 1 second breaks respectively.
