[edit] Philosophy

Isolated expertise in functional areas of finance, systems, marketing or operations is giving way to a composite and unified approach to managing business processes.

Effective decision-making requires an integrated understanding of all business functions.

At the Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, this guiding philosophy is firmly rooted in reality. Methodologies of business management are being shorn off the traditional practices and new holistic approaches are being developed.

These approaches are more at home with the issues that straddle the length and the breadth of ‘The Value Chain’. Today, the constantly changing business environment is characterized with many complex inter-related issues, which need to be addressed.

In such a scenario, the School believes that premium will be on professionals who are equipped to manage human intellect and imagination, on managers who can provide innovative solutions to problems and on executives who can deliver when required. Also the School espouses the belief that the use of technology would be invaluable in providing competitive strategies for overcoming all business challenges.

[edit] Master of Management (M.Mgmt) Course Structure

The School Of Management through its flagship Master of Management (M.Mgmt) programme seeks to develop managers for an integrated understanding of all business functions. The rigorous curriculum of the Master of Management programme has a judicious blend of courses that provide an in-depth understanding of the operational and strategic aspects of management.

One unique feature of the program is that apart from the regular courses on Finance, Accounting, Operations and HR, SJMSOM prepares for technology management with core courses like Technology Policy, R&D Management and Managing technology transfer. Also, innovative courses like “Mission, Vision and Leadership” provide opportunity for the student to work under the mentorship of Indian Business leaders and to hone their leadership skills.

The Two-year course is organized into eight terms. In the first year (first four terms), students gain knowledge on all the disciplines of management through 24 rigorous courses. All the academic courses require case studies, course projects and research by students, which provide exposure to the latest practices in the Industry. Students have the option of doing a 1-month winter project at the end of first 2 terms.

The rigor of the academics in the first year culminates in the Summer Project at the end of the first year of the program. The 2-month project done after the completion of all the foundational courses on management, offers the student an opportunity to learn management practices through live projects in the Industry.

In the three terms following the summer project, the program prepares the student to pursue the management discipline of his choice by offering a wide choice of electives in addition to few core courses. Students can decide to choose electives from any or all the disciplines.

The special feature of the M.Mgt course is the Course project done in the final term. This second project extends for 4 months. Working under the faculty guidance, the students have the opportunity to work on project with both the academic and practical inputs. Most of the work gets published in reputed management journals.
