Shahrekord

Shahrekord (Fa: شهرکرد) is a city in western Iran, and is the capital of the Chahar Mahaal o Bakhtiari province. It is situated 107 km southwest of Isfahan, and 521 km southwest of the capital Tehran.

It was originally known as Deh Kord, which means Village of the Kurds. In 1935 the name was changed to Shahrekord, meaning City of the Kurds, to reflect metropolitan growth and increases in population. [1] [2]

It had an estimated population of 127,359 in 2005.[3]

The city is traditionally a producer of bricks, mosaics, milled rice, and woven cloth, among others.

The city has a thermoelectric power plant, a microwave-repeater station, and a telegraph station. It is also home to several universities.

Shahrekord is among highest towns in Iran (2061 m above sea level). Its weather is dry, cold in winter and mild in summer. The town has a ski resort (Bardeh) located about 35 km away aquiped with teleski, and several natural lagoons and small lakes for outdoor relaxation.
