Shahara Islam
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shahara Akhter Islam was 20 years old when she was killed in the 7 July 2005 London terrorist attacks, in the Tavistock Square bus explosion. Islam, was a second-generation Bangladeshi girl who after completing high-school, went off to take a job as a cashier at the Co-operative Bank in London. A devout believer in Islam who also embraced modern Western culture and society, she is hailed as an example of a confident young British Muslim woman, rightly described by one newspaper as the “true face of Islam in London”. Murdered by bombers who claimed to act in the name of her faith, she has come to represent the challenges faced by Muslims in their quest for integrating into Western society.
