Shadowtrooper
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shadowtroopers are elite Reborn warriors in the Star Wars expanded universe. They were the culmination of Galak Fyyar's efforts in the video game Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. Armed with a lightsaber and suited in armour, they had much success in the assault on the Jedi Academy.
What differentiates the Shadowtroopers from other Reborn is the Shadow Armor. The Shadow Armor was developed by Galak Fyyar. It looks similar to a TIE Pilot suit, but has three notable characteristics:
- Its black color and the attached Personal Cloaking Device grant the wearer stealth capabilities. The cloaking device is imperfect, however, as an outline of the suit can usually be seen.
- The suit has a cortosis weave, giving it a certain degree of resistance to lightsabers.
- The armor has an attached Artusian Crystal that has been imbued with the Force in the Valley of the Jedi.
It is speculated that by donning the armor one gains Force-sensitive capabilities by means of the Artusian Crystal. In Jedi Outcast, during one of the stormtrooper conversations Kyle Katarn overhears, one stormtrooper remarks to the other that, given the Shadow Armor, he could do anything the Reborn can do. This suggests the armor grants its user the ability to wield the Force but not the skill to do so properly. In addition, Shadowtroopers in the game drop imbued Artusian Crystals on death that replenish Katarn's Force meter, acting as further evidence to the theory. It is also possible that the Stormtrooper was referring to the Cortosis weave, however.
Personal Cloaking Devices return in Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy in the hands of certain Imperial officers.
[edit] Defeat
In Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, when Kyle Katarn boards the Doomgiver, Luke Skywalker orders him to adjust the communication frequency to match Rogue Squadron's, and then contact them and tell them to intercept the Doomgiver as it passes over Yavin 4. Kyle then proceeds to rescue Jan Ors and shut down the shields. Both of them escape just as Rogue Squadron destroys the Doomgiver. Many Shadowtroopers were killed on the ship. Subsequently, the Shadowtroopers that had made it to the surface of Yavin were either killed by Kyle or slain at the Jedi Academy by the Jedi, ending the Shadowtrooper threat.
