From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The University of Pennsylvania Shabbatones are a Jewish a cappella performing group centered out of Philadelphia, PA. Created in 2001, the group gives major performances once a semester and typically goes on a one-week tour between fall and spring semesters. Past tour locations have included Massachusetts, Florida, and California. They are also a regular staple in JCFPA, the Jewish Collegiate Festival of the Performing Arts, which takes place at the Jewish Theological Seminary at Columbia University each February.

The Shabbatones' first album, Restless, was released in 2003. Their second album, Challah Back, was released in 2005. The Shabbatones have also recorded, and are in the final steps of producing, their third album, entitled From Philly, With Love, which will be released at their spring show of the same name on April 12, 2007.

[edit] Music

The Shabbatones are a completely student-run group, and so all songs that the Shabbatones perform are arranged by members or by alumni. Most of the music that the Shabbatones arrange is taken from modern Israeli and American pop songs, supplemented by adaptations of classical liturgical songs.
