Sha Tin Government Secondary School (沙田官立中學) is located in Sha Tin, Hong Kong. It was founded in September 1972 and has now become a fully-fledged co-educational grammar school. There are 30 classes with an enrollment of approximately 1,200 students in the year 2004-2005. The current principal is Mr. CHOW Kam Cheung and the two assistant principals are Mr. LAU Siu Ming and Mrs. CHUNG KONG Tak Ha.

The school is a co-educational secondary school founded by the Government. School policies are basically devised according to the educational ordinances and policies of the Education and Manpower Bureau.The School Management Committee(SMC) is the top decision-making body. Its chairperson is an official appointed by the Education and Manpower Bureau. Other members includes the school principal, two teacher representatives,two parent representatives, two alumni representatives and two community members. The present chairperson of our SMC is Mr. Steve Lee Yuk-fai, Principal Education Officer (Professional Development of Teachers) of the Education and Manpower Bureau. The community members are Professor Kenneth Young and Mr. Dennis Chan, renowned artist and designer. The SMC is responsible for setting the direction of school development and approving the school budgets. The principal, with the help of two assistant principals, is responsible for the daily operation of the school.

There are 30 classrooms, 4 well-equipped laboratories, 5 computer rooms, 1 Multimedia Learning Centre and a number of special rooms such as student activity room, English room, Art Room, Geography Room,Music Room etc. Each classroom is well equipped with advanced audio-visual facilities and air-conditioned. There are also facilities for sports and leisure. Other facilities include the air-conditioned School Hall, Library, Conference room, Teachers' Resources Center, Prefects' Room, Broadcasting Room, Social Worker's Room, Student Council Room, etc.

The establishment of English Room signifies a key success of the department of English. It, from time to time, is regarded as a solemn meeting place specially designated for the English Association as well as the English Debating Club. Inside the room you may be able to find traces of enthralling game boards and documentaries, notably the national flags of Hong Kong, Canada, United States of America, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The school has been using English as the medium of instruction (EMI) in all subjects except Chinese, Chinese Literature, Chinese History and Putonghua. To help our students to become biliterate in English and Chinese, and trilingual in English, Putonghua and Cantonese, and to encourage our students to learn English and Putonghua in their daily life, the school organizes an English Speaking Day every week and a Putonghua Speaking Day every month.

In the past few years, the school has actively developed information technology. The five computer rooms in the school, the advanced computer network and the connection ports have made access to the Internet and Intranet in every classroom and special room possible. The main concerns will be to use wireless network more widely and to further enhance the use of IT in teaching and learning. In addition, it incorporated digital movie production in the computer curriculum in the junior levels to enable our students to exercise their creativity and make learning IT more lively and of fun. STGSS also is well-known to be one of the top IT leading schools in Hong Kong, funded by the government, couraged by ex-principal Mr. Ma Siu Leung(馬紹良). Advanced Information Technologies proven education success by students' achievements in computing areas, graduate students continue further studying and researching locally or overseas.

The Sha Tin Government Secondary School Alumni Association (沙田官立中學校友會) was established in 1995 as a non-profit organization. It aims at promoting liaison between alumni, acting as a bridge between alumni and Sha Tin Government Secondary School and organizing activities for alumni.
