Sexual Freedom Coalition

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sexual Freedom Coalition (SFC) is a pro-sex organisation and political pressure group based in the United Kingdom that challenges traditional sexual norms and traditional morality and encourages sexual revolution.

The Sexual Freedom Coalition is a national UK organisation whose aim is to campaign for sensible reform of Britain’s antiquated and repressive laws concerning consensual sexual practice between adults.

The Sexual Freedom Coalition was formed in April 1996 by Dr Tuppy Owens, campaigner, writer and sex therapist, to counter a wave of state repression in the UK which resulted in swing clubs and fetish clubs being raided and forced the cancellation of the 10th Anniversary Sex Maniacs Ball a charity fund raising event on behalf of The Leydig Trust who support Outsiders - a community of disabled people.

A march was organised starting in Soho and ending at 10 Downing Street where a petition “Sex Please We're British was presented to the Prime Minister.

Since then Dr Owens has continued to campaign and has recruited a number of professional people to form the 'steering body' of the organisation. These include:-

Dr Petra Boynton - a lecturer and researcher at a London university, specialising in research methodologies. She has researched the effects of sexually explicit material, and women involved in street prostitution. She was named a "Woman To Watch" by The Guardian newspaper. Petra is the agony aunt at the teenage website Mykindaplace, Sex Editor at menshealth.co.uk,and presents a regular sex and relationships show on BBC Five Live.

Poonam Thapa - an international consultant on sexual health.

John Blandford - Britain's top criminal lawyer specialising in prostitution

Ted Goodman - councillor, solicitor and campaigner

Laurence Pay - 20 years experience of working in the British Criminal Justice System - preceded by 4 years working in the area of child protection within Social Services. The main focus of his work has been concerned with the management and treatment of perpetrators and victims of sexual abuse.

David Flint - freelance journalist/designer/film-maker specialising in adult entertainment, music, film and alternative culture.
