"Sex And The City" was the name for the pilot episode of the HBO series "Sex and the City" which became a world-wide hit over the following six years.

At a birthday party for thirty-something Miranda, Carrie and her friends vow to stop worrying about finding the perfect male and start having sex like men. Carrie experiments with an old flame and meets Mr. Big; Miranda warms up to Skipper; Samantha has a one night stand with a man Charlotte wouldn't sleep with on the first date.

  • This episode introduced the characters of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha, as well as the recurring characters of Big, Stanford and Skipper.
  • Aside from the four main characters, Big is the only character to appear in both the pilot show and the series finale "An American Girl in Paris, Part Deux".
  • Mr Big's nickname was created by Carrie. His real name is jokingly covered up throughout the series run and remains unknown until the last scene of the final episode - it is revealed to be "John".
  • All of Season 1 was shot with 16mm film. This was later changed to 35mm for the five following seasons.

  • During the opening credits a bus is seen twice, the first time you see the bus there are people on it, the second time, 3 seconds later they have all disappeared. This continues throughout the series run.
  • Mr. Big's car windows aren't tinted when he offers Carrie a ride. When she gets out and asks him a question, they are tinted.
