Severobaykalsk

Severobaykalsk (Russian: Северобайка́льск) is a town in the Buryat Republic, Russia, located on the coast of Lake Baikal at the mouth of the Tyya River, 1,048 km north of Ulan-Ude. Population: 25,700 (2006 est.); 25,434 (2002 Census); 28,336 (1989 Census).
Founded in the 1970s as a work settlement for workers engaged in the construction of the Baikal Amur Mainline. It was granted town status in 1980.
