Severino montano

Severino Montano is best known for institutionalizing theatre in the Philippines. He was born in the year 1915 in Loaag, Ilocos Norte. Montano studied at the University of the Philippines then moved to America to study in Yale. His expertise varies from being a playwright , writer, director, and actor. He has received many awards such as the Patnubay ng Kalinangan Award from the city of Manila (1968), Presidential Award for Merit in Drama and Theater (1961) and the Rockefeller Foundation Grant to travel to 98 cities worldwide (1950, 1952, 1962, 1963). He was then named National Artist in 2001. Some of his famous works include Parting at Calamba (1953), The Ladies and the Senator (1953), and The Love of Leonor Rivera (1954). He died in 1980 and in 2001, when he was given the National Artist award, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo had said that he is not only an exemplary figure among his artist peers but also a role model to the people especially the students for his hard work and his accomplishments.
