[edit] History
The Seventh Air Force evolved from the Hawaiian Air Force that was originally established to control a growing number of air units arriving in the Territory of Hawaii in 1940. Following World War II it was briefly a named command (Pacific Air Command) before inactivating in 1949. HQ USAF revived the Seventh Air Force to serve Pacific Air Forces during the Vietnam conflict when the growth of forces required a replacement for the 2d Air Division. In this capacity 7AF was the air component Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV). In 1986, 7 AF was reactivated to replace the 314th Air Division in South Korea.
