Talk:Serbian rock
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rock started in Serbia with groups that were playing at dances. The first of them was Lola & The Amigos. He was followed by Tommy Sovilj i Siluete. Those were groups playing the Bill Haley and Elvis Preley standards. The change with the british rock invasion. Zoran Miscevic i Siluete, Elipse, Zlatni Decaci and Crni Biseri were among the more popular bands. They mostly played the Beatles, Rolling stones, Animals and Kinks standards. Zlatni decaci ( The Golden boys) tried playing also classical music in rock version and recorded the theme from the Swan lake. There were three so called guitar festivals that are still remembered as the rock revolution en Belgrade as more then 10 000 young went the The Fair of Belgrade to listen their favorite pop groups. The Seventies were marked by the groups that tried to play their original compositions and some of them went into the progressive stream. The most notorious was Korni Grupa, led by the famous Kornelije Kovac who came to Belgrade from sarajevo where he was playing with the already legendary Indexi. Korni Grupa had few very commercial hits as "Trla baba lan" but also a few more ambitious compositions with improvisations of more than 10 minutes. There was also Yu grupa, a trio or quartet from Belgrade playing in the good old rock and roll style their own numbers as "Kosovka".Both groups had successfull records although the industry was not able to follow the popularity of rock. You have to take into account that the first radio station playing rock and pop music 24 hours was Studio B ( started as Radio Avala) in 1969. After them came Bora Djordjevic , first with Suncokret and after with Riblja Corba. He has been the most important personality in the Belgarde rock scene in the last twenty years. "Pogledaj dom svoj andzele" (Look at your home angel) is probably the best rock number fromt he Belgrade rock scene. The punk revolution brought fame to groups as Idoli, Elekricni orgazam, Sarlo akrobate amnog others. The only one that showed originality and rock personality was Ekaterina Velika (EKV) whose leader and singer died. The actual rock scene seems rather pale, resurrecting after ten years of predominance of the so calles turbo/folk (some kind of equivalent of serbian country rock). Riblja Corba is still the leading rock group while some of his ex band members as Momcilo Bajagic or Dejan Cukic are recording some interesting numbers.
