[edit] Industry
Much of Sioux City's dangerous or polluting industry is located on the downstream side of Sergeant Bluff. This includes two large coal-burning power plants, an ammonia fertilizer plant, and a soybean processor. All of these are in the sprawling Port Neal Landing industrial park, which is surrounded by cornfields and the Missouri River. The terrain here is very flat, because it used to be in the river's flood plain.
[edit] School
Main article: Sergeant Bluff-Luton School District
The Sergeant Bluff school district is a co-schooling organization with the nearby town, Luton. Thus, the school is called Sergeant Bluff-Luton. The school consists of four schools: a primary building (Kindergarton-2nd grade), an elementary buliding (3rd-5th), a middle school building (6th-8th), and a high school building (9th-12th). Most of the students attending the district are in Sergeant Bluff or in nearby Sioux City. The school's attendance has risen since its founding, and plans for more buildings have been proposed. In March of 2007 the school system took a major hit when is bus barn was burnt down by a large fire. The school had eleven buses, 2 tractors, several lawn mowers, vans, and trucks in the barn. "Anything the school owned that had wheels was lost in the fire," as quoted by the superintendent of the Sergeant Bluff-Luton school district. Many old computers and $7,000 worth of paper were also lost. Buses and vans needed are being dontated until the school can buy more buses, probably until June. Schools that donated buses were; Sioux City community, Lawton-Bronson, Webster City, Woodbury Central, Denison, Westwood, River Valley. A very important bus was donated for use by Denison which is made for use for the handicapped. Jensen Mazda in Sioux City and Dirks Motor Company in Akron donated vans for the school to use for special needs kids. The Mid Amrecia Air Museum had several air planes in the barn that were not insured and irreplaceable. The cause of the fire is still unknow
