Since the turnout in the second round of the first presidential election of that year had been less than 50 per cent of all eligible voters, the election was invalid and was therefore repeated in December 2002 with the following result:

1. Vojislav Koštunica Democratic Party of Serbia 1,699,098 57.66%
2. Dr Vojislav Šešelj Serbian Radical Party 1,063,296 36.08%
3. Borislav Pelević Party of Serbian Unity 103,926 3.53%
