Serbia first time participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2006. The country previously participated as part of Serbia and Montenegro (which dissolved on June 5, 2006). Ironically, Serbia competed as an independent country in the JESC before taking part in the actual Eurovision Song Contest.

Out of a hundred songs sent in by children across Serbia only 10 made it through to the final round, which was broadcast live on RTS 2 and RTS Satellite channel on October 1, 2006. The finals were held in Millennium Hall, Vršac and the winner was the group that gained the most votes from the public (via SMS). The winner was the song Učimo strane jezike (English: We're learning foreign Languages). The group, which has 8 members, was the favourite from the moment the ten finalists were selected. They represented Serbia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 in Bucharest, Romania and came in 5th place with 81 points.
