Morote seoi nage

(Morote) Seoi Nage is a shoulder throw, one of the traditional forty throws of Judo as developed by Jigaro Kano. It belongs to the first group, Dai Ikkyo, of the traditional throwing list, Gokyo (no waza), of Kodokan Judo. It is also part of the current 67 Throws of Kodokan Judo. It is classified as a hand technique, Te-Waza.

Danzan Ryu's Seoi Goshi most closely resembles Judo's Seoi Nage, [1] whereas Danzan Ryu's Seoi Nage is actually Judo's Ippon Seoinage. Seoi Goshi is one of the twenty arts in the Nage No Te list.

[edit] Technique description

Seoi-nage is a very popular throws with many variations. It is primarily a hand technique which involves getting the opponent off balance by pulling in a forward motion. The opponent is called Uke, and the person performing the throw is called Tori.

Tori and Uke both face each other gripping in a normal right-handed grip. Tori begins by pulling Uke forward. He does this while crossing his right foot to Uke’s right foot and bringing his left foot to Uke’s left food. Tori then squats beneath Uke’s center of balance while pulling Uke onto his own back.

As Tori squats he bends his right elbow and then places it tightly in the right arm pit of Uke. Tori locks his arm into Uke’s arm pit while maintaining Uke’s tight position to Tori’s back. When Seoi Nage is done this way, some schools teach for tori's elbow to be under uke's armpit and be load bearing, whereas others don't and just look for the natural wrapping that occurs to tightly secure uke.

Tori begins to lift Uke up by straightening his knees while keeping a straight back. As he does this he continues to pull Uke up and over his right shoulder. Using Uke’s arm as leverage as Tori pulls Uke will spin and fall on his back.
