Senichi Hoshino

Senichi Hoshino (星野 仙一 Hoshino Sen'ichi?, born January 22, 1947) is a Japanese former professional baseball player and manager. Currently, he serves as the assistant senior director for the Hanshin Tigers. He also does color commentary on TV. On Jan 25, 2007, he was named manager for the Japan Olympic baseball team.
Hoshino was born in Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, and played baseball professionally as a pitcher. He graduated from Meiji University before turning professional, and was considered as the ace pitcher in Chunichi Dragons. After retiring from playing, he became the manager for Chunichi Dragons, and later Hanshin Tigers. In 2003, he led the Tigers to their first Central League pennant in 18 years before retiring for health reasons.

On January 25, 2007, Hoshino was named manager of the Japan Olympic Team, following the tradition of well known player-managers Shigeo Nagashima and Sadaharu Oh.[1]
