Seneca Alger

Seneca Alger (born 1816, New York State; died September 15, 1862, Jersey City, New Jersey) was a partner of the wholesale grocery firm Alger & Brother (located at 85 Day Street, NYC).

According to The Wealth and Biography of the Wealthy Citizens of the City of New York: "He commenced life poor, and enjoys a good reputation for industry and integrity. He is a good citizen and a deservedly esteemed merchant, of cheerful, kind and jocular manners, and beloved amongst his social acquaintances."

He was worth USD $100,000 as of 1855.
