Send me a Star

I think I completley rushed Silver Inches to be honest! It's one of my favorite projects, but it came out too soon after an Irish Traditional album - I think people needed a breather before I changed the genre. I'm quite honest about it really, I mean, Silver Inches was a massive success, especially where downloading was concerned - but I did rush it. After long chats, and a few coffees with the team, I picked a release date which we thought was right - the release date for Send me a Star. This single took it's time, and thank God at that!

I was talking to Matt in the studio, and he said - "Why not do a new single, it's been a while since you last recorded something - something that I could buy!" Matt always buys my stuff - he's a genious - the man who produces it all! I agreed, so it all started there. I'm no stranger to recording, but it took so long because of the writing. I'd written up to 50 or 60 songs, and had to pick my favorite! I let 5 of my closest friends, and the team hear my shortlist, of maybe nine or ten, and all [but two] choose Send me a Star.

I think I must have recorded it about 20 times - not to mention the live performance in Derry! It was absoloutley fantastic! Although the live version was recorded during the time which I was ill, it didn't sound too bad, although I'm sure to be recording another live version soon! Anyway, the single came together, along with Aindréas mixing one of his well-known and loved Predudice Mixes - so there I had it!

The title track was fine, but I needed something traditional - the song entered my head as soon as I thought this. I wannted to record a song in Scots Gaelic - Gáidhlig. I'd thought of 'Mhorag 's'Na horo Gheallaidh which [indirectly!] means Morag the Lovely Lady. I first heard the song from Mairí MacInnes of Uibhist a' Deas, a remote island off the coast of Scotland. I fell in love with the song! From the day I heard it, I heard many other versions, but hers stuck to my head.

I recorded 'Mhorag 's'Na Horo Gheallaidh' on a bleak day, so it put me in an astonishing mood - we had the whole band together, as well as a few friends, and within an hour or two it was done! So far, this is the best thing I've released, it's so energetic, and even better, there's more to come..
