The Semur (色目 in Chinese characters) meant people with colored eyes (as opposed to the majority Han people who are black eyed) who were a minority group in historical China. Some of the Semur people practised Islam. Zheng He is probably the best-known Semur in the West. The word Semur does not point specifically to a certain ethnic group. Instead, it mainly means Turkic, Iranian and other Eurasian people who lived in China, but who had blue or green eyes.
