A term in international relations that refers to states that fall between the high-income core states and low-income periphery states.

The semiperiphery is intermediate between the core and the periphery. Contemporary nations of the semiperiphery are industrialized. These nations export industrial goods and commodities. However, they lack the power and the economic dominance of core nations. An example of a semiperiphery nation is Brazil because it exports automobiles to Nigeria, and auto engines, orange juice extract, and coffee to the United States.
