Semiahmoo Secondary School was ranked 29th in the Fraser Institute annual ranking of schools in 2004/05[2].

Semiahmoo Secondary School has been an IB World School since June 1980. It offers the IB Diploma Programme.

Semiahmoo Secondary School has always been famous for its extremely impressive music program, its forte being jazz. It travels to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival Every year for the grades 11 - 12 jazz bands and jazz choir, and constantly wins awards for the best band, individual musicians, and vocalists. The current line up of music teachers is Mr. Gregory Farrugia, Mr. Dagan Lowe, and Mr. Dave Fullerton. A very successful jazz festival for Semiahmoo is the Envision Jazz Festival, located in Surrey, B.C. Award winners from the latest Envision Jazz Festival include Sang Jun Lim(Best Surrey Junior Trumpet Player), Hilary Ison and Danica Kell(Best Senior Vocal Jazz Soloist), Dave Ison(Best Surrey Junior Soloist and Best Junior Guitar Player), Kevin Hickey, Kenneth Goh(Best Surrey Junior Trombone), Michael Yoo(Best Senior Drummer), Dustin Kiselbach(Best Senior Bass Player), Nathan Dobson(Best Junior Drummer), Cameron Milligan(Best Surry Senior Trumpet Player), and Grace Cho(Best Surrey Senior Saxophone Player). The Grade 10 Jazz Band won Best Surrey Junior Band and Best Junior Rythm Section. The Grade 11 Jazz Band won Most Outstanding Senior Surrey Band and Best Surrey Senior Rythm Section.
