Selvaraghavan is one of the India's emerging prolific film director whose roots are from the southern part of India. He is the son of an ace film director Kastoori Raja. He shot to fame in his debut venture Thuluvatho Illamai, a movie about adolescent gags and teenage capers. His next movie Kadhal Kondein won both box office and critical applause. His directorial skills were appreciated by most of the India's leading directors and people concerning cinema. Then the year 2005 witnessed one of a classic movies of recent times 7G Rainbow Colony.

Selvaraghavan, who launched himself straight into direction after doing his BE in Mechanical Engineering, relies on the Net and books for his story ideas. He loves doing horror films and admits that he likes to scare people. His favourite directors are Oliver Stone and Francis Ford Coppola and the hero he'd like to direct is Robert de Niro. He loves reading, mostly Wilbur Smith. He considers his strength lies in writing a good screenplay.

The best compliments he has received are from the Press and from Bharathiraja who said of Kaadhal Kondein that "After Nayagan, it's the best film I've seen".

Selvaraghavan has tried to be realistic within the cinematic format. He has worked on his characters so well that you forget that they are stars and you can identify with them easily. The soothing background score and music of Yuvan Shankar Raja is an added advantage for his films. The lighting, camera and close-up shots of cameraman Aravind are top-class. Selvaraghavan pushes the cinematic envelope and brings savvy freshness to the form, hitherto unexplored.

On December 15th, 2006, he married Sonia Agarwal.
