Self-punishment
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Self-punishment is defined as "punishment inflicted upon the self". It may happen as a result of a feeling of shame and the need for admonishment by the individual on themselves rather than by a second party.
It may start out as small punishments, such as maintaining a state of seclusion or restriction from undertaking an enjoyable activity, but may progress into larger problems, such as cutting or using alcohol or drugs to excess.
