Selby and Ainsty will be a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It will elect one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

The Boundary Commission for England has recommended the creation of this seat following a review of parliamentary representation in York and North Yorkshire.

This seat will be a successor to Selby. The electoral wards used to create the extended constituency will be:

• The entire district of Selby
• The Harrogate wards of Marston Moor, Ouseburn, Ribston and Spofforth with Lower Wharfedale

Some villages in the existing Selby constituency will be moved to the new York Outer constituency.

This extended constituency will be fought for the first time at the 2009 or 2010 UK general election. One candidate has so far been confirmed - Selby and Ainsty Conservatives selected local businessman Nigel Adams on 17 June 2006 ^[1] Incumbent MP for the Selby constituency John Grogan has announced that he will not run in Selby and Ainsty in the next general election.
