Selçuk University (In Turkish: Selçuk Üniversitesi) was founded on 1975. The name of the University comes from the Seljuk Empire whose capital was Konya and which reigned in Anatolia.

In the academic year of 1976-1977 Selçuk University started education with its two faculties, Faculty of Science and Faculty of Literature, 7 departments, 327 students and 2 permanent lecturers. Selçuk University has attained the state of a modern university by its physical structure, technological equipment and social-cultural facilities which have been put forth in recent years.

Selçuk University is carrying out educational activities at 16 faculties, 1 State Conservatory, 1 Higher Education School of Foreign Languages, 25 Vocational Schools of Higher Education and 13 Research and Application Centers. Selçuk University has nearly 60,000 students and a population of approximately 3,900 academicians and administrative personnel.

Each year, more than 1,600,000 high-school graduates take the national examination to enter the 53 state and 23 private universities in Turkey. Selçuk University attracts students of high caliber nationally.

Selçuk university has four modern campuses; three in Konya city center and one in Karaman (which is a city located in the southern part of Konya), and Vocational Colleges in 24 different locations.

University central library provides information and loan services to students at Alaeddin Campus. In addition, every school and institute runs separate and specific collections of books individually. Faculties also have their own libraries, which house various volumes, documents, periodicals, books and a reading area.
Total library number within the university is 8. The libraries’ stock of 500,000 volumes and subscription to over 1000 periodicals including online publications, provide resources for the undergraduate and graduate course requirements. Libraries have internet access to international e-libraries and subscribed to CD-ROM data bases in various subjects. Books not available at the library can be obtained through inter-library loan system.

Selçuk University has put 7,000 modern computers into service of its students from all programs in 100 different laboratories. Furthermore, besides face-to-face education, some courses are carried out on University Television and the internet within the extend of Distance Learning Programs.

The University has the determination to provide accommodation to its students. Foreign students are placed in modern flats and halls of residences. For the students who want to live in private accommodation can also find cheap and modern building blocks just a few hundred meters away from the campus. A special arrangement for accommodation can be available for Erasmus students. Academic staff are offered places in University’s Guest House with no charge, which provides the comfort of a four star hotel.

An Olympic swimming pool, four different sport halls, football pitches and walking paths show that the university invests in student welfare and comfort.

Concerts, bale, and theatres are also social side of the University. State Conservatory, the TV channel and the radio station also play an important role to enrich student life in campus.
