Sekolah Menengah Sains Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra is a school located in Pengkalan Chepa, Kota Bharu in the state of Kelantan, Malaysia, not too far from the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport and the Camp of Eighth Batalion of Malaysian Infantry Force. It was one of the first set of full-timed boarding schools (SBP) built by the Malaysian Government in the wake of Malaysia New Economy Policy.

It officially opened in 1973, but the students still had to reside in the hostel of Sekolah Menengah Ismail Petra (SMIP) until its own hostel opened and was occupied one year later. Its original name was Sekolah Menengah Sains Kelantan since it was the first SBP in the state of Kelantan. The name was then changed to Sekolah Menengah Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra when Mr Muhamad Shafie bin Ismail (now Dato') was the school principal. It was a result of the declaration of Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra as the 'Tengku Mahkota' of Kelantan at the moment. Then, once again the name was changed by implementing the word 'Sains' into it.

The name Sekolah Menengah Sains Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra which has given a lot of inspiration to its staff and students is still used until now. The abbreviation of the name is SMSTMFP, commonly known as Faris Petra. Other motttos such as 'Sains Asas Kemajuan,' and The Green Campus of Farisian are also very familiar to its community.

Many successful students have graduated from the schoolto become professionals in every field. Some become dedicated doctors, some are the good engineers, and even some active politicians. The former students' association of SMSTMFP (also known as SEMESTA) showed their great appreciation to the school as the first place where they learnt the meaning of the determination, love and friendship, by contributing a mosque in 2004. All the costs of RM600,000.00 were borne by the alumni and collection by the SMSTMFP's PTA. Now, the mosque stands as the symbol of the students appreciation to the school.
