Sekela (woreda)

Sekela is one of the 105 woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Mirab Gojjam Zone, Sekela is bordered on the southwest by Bure Wemberma, on the west by the Agew Awi Zone, on the north by Merawi, on the northeast by Adet, on the east by Kuarit, and on the southeast by Jabi Tehnan. The major town in Sekela is Gishe Abay.

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 116,477, of whom 58,081 were males and 58,396 were females; 3,385 or 2.91% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 7.6%. With an estimated area of 579.05 square kilometers, Sekela has an estimated population density of 201.2 people per square kilometer, which is greater than the Zone average of 174.47.[1]
