Sejlflod

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sejlflod is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in North Jutland County on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 208 km², and has a total population of 9,394 (2005). Its mayor is Kristian Schnoor, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party.

The main town and site of its municipal council is the town of Storvorde, ca. 12 kilometers west of Aalborg city center.

Neighboring municipalities with land connection are Aalborg and Skørping to the west, and Hadsund to the south. Because Sejlflod municipality is located on the south shores of the Limfjord, the waterway that separates the main body of the Jutland peninsula from the island of Vendsyssel-Thy, its neighboring municipality Hals to the north is separated from Sejlflod by the waters of Langerak.

To the east is Ålborg Bay (Ålborg Bugt).

By January 1, 2007 Sejlflod municipality will cease to exist due to Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Hals, Nibe, and Aalborg municipalities to form the new Aalborg municipality.
