Seditionist

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A seditionist is one who engages in or promotes the interests of sedition, as in the sense of an abolitionist. As a deprecated legal definition, it has been more recently subsumed under political subversion, rebellion, insurgency, etc. Numerous individuals and organizations have been historically charged as such in the United States, whether (contemporaneously) legally under the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 or the Sedition Act of 1918, or extralegally through an ad hominem attack. The use of speech to criticize political authority, while largely defended under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, continues to be a controversial topic.
