Sedale Threatt

Sedale Eugene Threatt (born September 10, 1961 in Atlanta, Georgia) is a retired NBA player. He played college basketball at the West Virginia University Institute of Technology from 1979 to 1983. He was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the sixth round of the 1983 NBA Draft. He played for four years for the 76ers until he was signed by the Chicago Bulls in 1987, then in 1988 he was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics. Threatt has the distinction of being the last sixth round pick to play in the NBA, as the NBA draft has since been shortened to two rounds.
He stayed in Seattle for four years before being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on October 2, 1991 in exchange for three second round draft picks. Threatt was expected to play a back up role to Magic Johnson, however when Johnson retired due to his infection with HIV, Threatt became the starting point guard. Threatt led the Lakers in assists, steals and minutes played each of his first two seasons with the Lakers. In 1992-93 he became the second player in Laker franchise history (joining Magic Johnson) to lead the Lakers in scoring (15.1), assists (6.9) and steals (1.7.) He scored a career high 42 points against the New York Knicks on 03/10/92 and scored a career playoff high 35 points in Game 1 of the 1993 Western Conference Quarter Finals against the Phoenix Suns.
Threatt lost his position in the starting line up when Nick Van Exel was drafted and played off the bench for the Lakers from 1994-1996. In 1996-1997 he played 21 games for the Houston Rockets after a brief stint in France. He then went on to play for a Greek team, Larissa.
In 2000, Threatt Sr pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of failing to pay child support to six of his children around the country and was sentenced to six months in prison.
He is currently in Australia running Elite Basketball camps for AND1.
One of his sons, Sedale Threatt Jnr, plays for the Melbourne Tigers of Australia's Big V Basketball League. Another son, Sedale Threatt Jr., is the starting quarterback for the NCAA Division I-AA Lehigh University Mountain Hawks of the Patriot League.
Threatt's daughter, Sierra Threatt, all city-first team women's soccer and Coca Cola Athlete/Academic scholar as goalkeeper has been recruited by Southern Wesleyan University as starting keeper for 2006.
As of October 2006, he is the head coach of the Australian SEABL team, the Nunawading Spectres.
