Talk:Secondary metabolism
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article was at some point turned into a redirect to metabolism, but I reversed it back to an article in its own right. While at its current state the contents of this article could easily fit there, this is not because secondary metabolism would not be an important topic. On the contrary, it is a far-ranging and important biological concept with many practical applications. Expansion is what this article needs. --Chino 10:12, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Merger
I think that Secondary metabolite should be merged into this article because there is a lot of overlap. In the strictest sense Secondary metabolite article would only be a short definition and a list of examples. Secondary metabolism is a wider concept covering also the metabolite. --Chino 08:20, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
I disagree with the idea of merging the "secondary metabolite" article with the "secondary metabolism" article. These are similar but not the same thing, and it makes it easier to locate specific references if the articles are as specific as possible. The 'Secondary metabolism' article should definitely contain a link to 'secondary metabolites', but the two articles should remain separate. -- Amanda Pal (00:17, 29 November 2006)
The terms "Natural products" and "Secondary metabolites" are actually the same , and these two phrases are very important in drug discovery. By merging with secondary metabolism , its relationship with drug discovery will be severed.
