Anyone know where this term came from and/or when it was created? It seems fairly recent, but I have to admit that I'm not a pop music aficionado.

(Actually, wouldn't this be a better fit in the Wiktionary? I wonder if it's deserving of a full encyclopedia article.) 12.103.251.203 23:18, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Merge with second album syndrome?

This is really the same article as second album syndrome. Anyone fancy merging the two and making them good?

I thought that seemed a good idea so I merged them. Not sure it's good though :-) IanF
i think you merged them the wrong way round. sophomore album is a type of second album syndrome, as the latter can refer to anything, not just music. if i knew how to make it the other way round, i would. Thedreamdied 15:07, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
You do have a point there about second album syndrome applying to more than albums, but wouldn't making the page under that name mean that we are restricted to only talking about the bad things that can happen to second albums? Second album syndrome is a product of sophomore albums... What about we redirect second album syndrome to sophomore slump, which seems to be on a similar topic, albeit about schools? [edit] 93 Examples?

There is no way that we need 93 examples to illustrate the concept of "a second album". I was going to trim this list down to 5-10 albums, but could not decide which ones best embodied the essence of being a second album. So I scrapped the list entirely. If anyone thinks that this article desperately needs a couple of examples, by all means add one or two, but it would probably be best to go with ones that were popularly seen as being particularly dissappointing and to provide references as such. agreed. good call. Thedreamdied 13:29, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
For any entries that are included in such a list, the linked article about the album should at least contain some information about why the album was difficult. --Kev 14:15, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion?

It is certainly an article that is worth including. It has not been very well written (yet), but that is no reason to delete it. There is plenty more to say on the subject. --Kev 10:26, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
