Securities & Investment Institute

The Securities and Investment Institute is a City of London based professional body for those who work in the financial and investment industry. It states its mission as:

"To set standards of professional excellence and integrity for the investment and securities industry, providing qualifications and promoting the highest level of competence to our members, other individuals and firms."

The SII was formed in 1992 as the Securities Institute by the members of the London Stock Exchange. It changed its name to the Securities and Investment Institute in November 2004.

The Institute offeres qualifications, training and industry membership for over 24,000 City professionals. As the main examining body for the industry, the Institute provides vocational qualifications attracting over 37,000 candidates a year. In addition it produces publications and workbooks, runs conferences and seminars and in-house training courses.

The Securities & Investment Institute is a registered charity and has the following charitable objects:

"To promote, for the public benefit, the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in the field of securities and investments to develop high ethical standards for practitioners in securities and investments and to promote such standards in the UK and overseas to act as an authoritative body for the purpose of consultation and research in matters of education or public interest concerning investment in securities."

The SII offers five grades of membership, the highest three carrying designatory letters:

Fellow (FSI), Member (MSI), Associate (ASI), Student, Affiliate
