[edit] Recap

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The episode starts with a news helicopter following a police chase. An armored car is speeding and swerving through different lanes of traffic speeding armored car. The reporter explains that some criminals stole the car from a federal reserve bank. They also have a hostage. As the armored car speeds down the highway, it passes Grandpa Max's RV. Shortly after it passes the RV, a large crystal grows from the road and completely destroys the undercarriage of the vehicle. It does a complete 180 and comes to a stop. One of the criminals get out with the hostage. Another comes out hefting a rather large rifle. Both are wearing infrared goggles. The latter criminal aims his weapon at the nearest police car and fires, sending it into the air just after its passengers flee. After the dust settles, Diamond Head appears behind the criminal who blew up the police car. The criminal tries to turn his weapon on Diamond Head, but Diamond Head simply slashes through it, leaving it in several pieces. The criminal flees in terror, but another crystal grows from the road, lifting him far above the ground. The first criminal then walks out from behind with his hostage. Diamond Head says nothing, deciding to make his hand into a spike as a visual demonstration. The criminal surrenders immediately. During all this, the news reporter's comments suggest that Ben's heroic acts using alien forms has become a somewhat-common occurrence.

On Vilgax's ship, Vilgax is watching the news report. He is not pleased with how it is being used, since heroism is not what he intends to use it for. His robotic lieutenant asks if he should send more robotic drones to retrieve it. Vilgax tells him no, and then the regeneration tank opens. One of the medical robots crawls out, only to get stepped on by a massive metal foot. Vilgax says that he'll see to the task himself.

In the RV, Ben wakes up screaming. Grandpa Max asks him if he had another nightmare. Ben says that it was the weird alien from his visions, which is meant to be Vilgax. Ben apparently saw Vilgax's new form in his dream. Gwen wonders if Ben wasn't just looking in a mirror. Grandpa Max assures Ben that it was a bad dream, and that they'll talk about it in the morning. As Grandpa Max heads back to bed, Ben tells Grandpa Max that Vilgax said, "I'm coming for you now." Upon hearing this, Grandpa Max stops in place, obviously concerned with the statement. He decides they're going to hit the road right now instead of waiting for morning. Gwen tells him that it's three in the morning. Grandpa Max claims that it's the best way to beat the traffic.

On a road along side a filed full of bison, Grandpa Max is driving unusually fast, which Ben points out. He just claims he wants to make it to Mount Rushmore before nightfall. Ben turns away, complaining of boredom. He then asks to play a game on Gwen's laptop. She says that she would, but not letting him will be a good lesson for him on how to entertain himself. Ben looks at the laptop and gets a mischievous look in his eyes.

On Vilgax's ship, the activation signal of Omnitrix is detected. Vilgax orders his crew to track it down. It only takes a few seconds for the sensors to find its general location. Staring at the screen, Vilgax says, "I have you now."

In the RV, Gwen begins to have trouble with her laptop. Upgrade appears on the screen, declaring that it won't work because she's a loser in a monotone. She yells at him to get out of her computer. He won't, saying that he's just entertaining himself. She pounds on the computer and shakes it in a vain attempt to get him out of it. As she shakes it, Upgrade completely envelops the laptop. It sprouts legs and jumps from Gwen's hands. As Gwen tries to catch the Upgrade-laptop, Upgrade finds a diary on the computer. He starts reading one of the entries, which is about him. As he reads, Gwen cuts him off and finishes the quote at the same time. Grandpa Max yells at Upgrade, saying that now is not the time to go alien. Upgrade doesn't see the problem, but unmerges with the laptop anyway. Grandpa Max says that they can't afford to attract attention. Upgrade is still confused, not sure how he can attract attention in an RV. He then reverts to human form. Clearly distracted, Grandpa Max says, "Never mind," and continues driving. Both Ben and Gwen are confused by this.

On Vilgax's ship, Ben's detransformation has caused them to lose the Omnitrix signal. Vilgax isn't concerned, since they've had enough time to get a general idea of its whereabouts. Looking at images of Ben's heroic acts as aliens on various screens, Vilgax has figured out a way to draw him out. He breaks the last screen, which shows Diamond Head saving a kitten from a tree, with his fist.

In the bison-filled field, Vilgax's ship descends to near ground-level. The hangar on the underside of his ship opens up, releasing a swarm of drones and a large, spiked, red sphere. The sphere cannot fly, so it just falls to the ground with the drones following it. Once it lands, it begins rolling under its own power. The strike force makes its way to Rapid City, destroying the welcome sign along the way.

In the RV, Ben and Gwen notice several fires coming from Rapid City, which he points out to Grandpa Max. Grandpa Max looks concerned, but is sure that the locals have everything under control. This is not the case, however, as the strike force is laying waste to everything in sight. Seeing a mushroom cloud created by the destruction they cause, Ben decides to help. Grandpa Max tries to tell him its a bad idea, but Ben isn't listening. He transforms into Heat Blast and rockets off towards the city.

In the city, the strike force is still laying waste to everything in sight. The red sphere is conspicuously absent from the battle. Heat Blast burns through four of the drones, telling them to pick on someone with real firepower. At once, all the remaining drones, which number in the dozens, surround him. The sight quiets Heat Blast, who is starting to realize that they were waiting for him to show. Despite this, he begins to attack. With his nearly infinite ability to create flame, the task of destroying them turns out to be a surprisingly easy one, as he wipes out every one without them firing so much as a single shot. Once the drones are all reduced to wreckage, an electrical net is fired at Heat Blast, pinning him to a nearby building. The red sphere rolls up after this. It opens up to reveal a compartment within, which Vilgax steps out of. The full extent of Vilgax's modifications are seen here. Not only is he much taller and wider, but most of his body is covered in armor. He also has several cylinders that are attached to his arms and shoulders. Heat Blast immediately recognizes him as the alien from his visions. Vilgax introduces himself, then tells Heat Blast that he wants the Omnitrix. Heat Blast states the obvious about Vilgax's allegiances, then burns through the net and goes on the attack. Vilgax stands in one place, taking every attack as if they were nothing. Then, with a single toss, he throws Heat Blast halfway across the city.

On the other side of the city, Heat Blast makes a decent crater when he lands. Burning away the rubble covering him, he comments on Vilgax's strength as Vilgax leaps across the city to land a short distance from him. Wanting to buy some time, Heat Blast uses his flames to melt the street into a fiery liquid. This manages to trip Vilgax. Grandpa Max drives up in the RV just after this happens. When he sees Vilgax, he is clearly scared. He also seems to recognize him. As Heat Blast gloats, Grandpa Max interposes the RV between him and Vilgax. Gwen opens the door, saying that Grandpa Max wants him to get in. Heat Blast doesn't want to, claiming that he's going to kick alien butt. He reverts after saying this, so Grandpa Max yells at him to get in. Vilgax manages to get up just after they drive off.

In the RV, Grandpa Max tells Ben that he doesn't want to pick a fight with Vilgax. Because he uses Vilgax's real name, Ben asks how he learned it. Gwen wants to know what he isn't telling them. Grandpa Max pauses, but is saved by the bell, so to speak, when two of Vilgax's drones begin to fire on the RV. Gwen tells Grandpa Max about the drones, and he speeds up and begins swerving to avoid them. Gwen finds her way to the front as he dodges the blasts, saying that they can't keep it up forever. Grandpa Max insists that things will only get worse unless they get to Mount Rushmore. His insistence to get there seems rather strange in this instance, which Gwen questions, but he just says that now isn't the time for questions. In the back of the RV, Ben manages to activate the Omnitrix and decides to fight. He transforms into Stinkfly this time. Again, Grandpa Max warns against fighting. Stinkfly ignores him and heads off to fight the drones.

Flying out of the RV, Stinkfly heads for the two drones. He lands on top of one as they try to shoot him down. The other attempts to blast him, but Stinkfly covers its blaster in slime, causing an overload and destroying the drone. He then stabs his tail into the engine of the drone he's travelling on, sending it to the ground. Hovering over the wreckage, Stinkfly says, "Float like a butterfly, but sting like a Stinkfly," mimicking the quote by Muhammad Ali. Vilgax then tackles him. Stinkfly manages to get airborne again, but Vilgax has a firm grip on his tail. He demands that Stinkfly give him the Omnitrix. Stinkfly just spits slime at him to knock him off. Vilgax breaks free almost instantly and tries to tackle Stinkfly once more. Stinkfly dodges this time, wondering just who Vilgax is. Vilgax lands in front of Grandpa Max's RV, forcing him to do a U-turn. Gwen thinks they should help Ben. Grandpa Max says that they will once they get some special help. Gwen figures it's from Mount Rushmore, and comments that Grandpa Max is freaking her out. Meanwhile, Vilgax chases Stinkfly across the rooftops of the city. He eventually tackles him into a building, causing a rather large explosion. This time, he gets a firm grip on Stinkfly's midsection. Tired of the chase, he shuts the Omnitrix off manually using a glowing finger. Ben, now in human form, is surprised. Vilgax is, too, since he did not expect a child to be using the omnitrix. Vilgax tries to take the Omnitrix, but it emits another feedback pulse and sends him flying. Vilgax realizes that the Omnitrix has merged with Ben's DNA. Ben tries to run, but Vilgax grabs him. His red sphere rolls up and opens, at which point Vilgax tosses Ben inside. Vilgax gets in after and drives off.

At Mount Rushmore, Grandpa Max is driving on a side road. Gwen doesn't think they allow tourists on the road. Grandpa corrects her, saying that they're tenants, not tourists. He stops in front of a "Road Closed" sign and presses a button under his dashboard. The ground beneath the RV turns out to be an elevator, and takes them into a massive underground facility. Gwen and Grandpa Max travel the corridors of the facility, which are covered in hundreds of compartments. Grandpa Max opens several of them, which contain strange-looking devices, some of which do not appear to be of human design. Gwen stops in her tracks, demanding to know just what is going on with everything that's happened. Grandpa Max finally finds the compartment he was looking for. He removes a rather large and deadly-looking blaster from it. In response to Gwen's question, he merely says that he wasn't exactly a normal plumber. He then charges the weapon, which crackles with electricity and glows bright blue.

On Vilgax's ship, Vilgax is still surprised by Ben being a child, though he does realize that it fits very well with what he had observed before, that being the Omnitrix being used as a play toy. Ben is currently affixed to a ring by several energy beams attached to his hands. On the arm which the Omnitrix is attached to, a large cylinder in Ben protests this, saying that he's saved quite a few people with the Omnitrix. Vilgax then starts describing his plan to Ben. He says that the Omnitrix is the key to a power struggle so ancient and vast that it's beyond Ben's comprehension. He then goes into his plan, which is to create an army whose members are each wearing an Omnitrix. This is shown through a visual metaphor, in which an army of Omnitrix aliens are attacking an ice fortress. Vilgax is leading this army. In a strange twist, one of the aliens reveals the ability to switch forms instantly, without reverting to a normal form. During the sequence, Vilgax claims that he will be invincible and conquer the entire universe. After the sequence ends, an array of tools rises up from the floor around Ben.

At Mount Rushmore, the RV emerges from the elevator that leads to the facility. Grandpa Max explains the function of the weapon he retrieved earlier. It's keyed into Vilgax's bio-signature, which implies that it was specifically designed to kill him and him alone. Grandpa Max alludes to that without actually saying as much, but implies that he's used it on Vilgax before. He won't expand on the details. He directs Gwen to a button in a compartment on the dashboard. When Gwen presses it, a holographic display pops up from the dashboard. Grandpa Max explains that it's a GPS-assisted tracking system that can locate the Omnitrix's signal. He tells Gwen to navigate. Meanwhile, Vilgax tells his crew to take off. He plans to destroy Earth once they get in orbit. Gwen and Grandpa Max find the ship preparing to take off. Grandpa Max says that they'll have to get aboard. Gwen wants to know how. Grandpa Max just smiles and presses a button on a console that flips out from his dashboard. When he does, the RV's bumper extends and spreads out. It then glows, causing the Rv to accelerate at a significant rate. Grandpa Max drives the RV off of a hill, sending them flying into Vilgax's ship.

On Vilgax's ship, Vilgax is holding a rather large energy blade. It's apparent that he intends to remove Ben's arm, then the Omnitrix. He is interrupted by honking, the source of which is the RV. It comes crashing through the wall, running through two of Vilgax's crew and Vilgax himself. Vilgax drops the energy blade upon impact. The computer warns of a hull breach and a power surge. After smashing Vilgax into a metal door, Grandpa Max backs up and leaves the RV, carrying his weapon. He tells Vilgax to keep his claws of his grandson. Ben is surprised to see Grandpa Max, as is Vilgax, who knows him by his last name. Grandpa Max fires at Vilgax, sending Vilgax through the door. He then drops the weapon and goes to check on Ben. Ben, having heard the earlier exchange, asks if Grandpa Max knows Vilgax. Grandpa Max simply says that it's a long story. At that point, the cylinder holding Ben's Omnitrix-equipped arm begins to cackle with electricity from the power surge mentioned earlier. As a result of the surge, Ben starts transforming into aliens at random. He transforms into XLR8, then Diamond Head, and finally Wildmutt before Grandpa Max figures out what is causing it. Wildmutt then transforms into Four Arms, allowing him to break free of his restraints.

Now free of the restraints, drones arrive to deal with Four Arms. Four Arms tries to attack them, but transforms into Ghostfreak and passes right through them. He then transforms into Grey Matter as a drone passes by. Grey Matter disassembles the drone and hops to another, at which point he transforms into Upgrade. Upgrade merges with the drone and slices through most of the remaining drones. During the fight, the ship begins to lose altitude, presumably from the damage caused by Grandpa Max's unorthodox method of boarding. Grandpa Max helps to destroy the last drone, using one of the operating tools to drill through the last drone. Grandpa Max says they need to get the ship under control. Upgrade is surprised that Grandpa Max can fly a spaceship, which distracts him and allows another drone to run into him. Gwen has seen too much by this point to be surprised by something so trivial in comparison. As Grandpa Max tries to fly the ship, Vilgax walks out from the room he was blasted into and grabs Grandpa Max. He then tosses him towards the breach in the hull. Grandpa Max stops just short of the edge. Vilgax then walks over and begins to crush him with his foot. He claims that the weapon Grandpa Max used on him won't work, since he's much stronger now than he was during their first meeting. Tossing the drone away, Upgrade tackles Vilgax through the hull breach. Vilgax is left to fall to the ground, but Upgrade's lightweight and stretchable body allows him to float down to Mount Rushmore safely. Meanwhile, Gwen and Grandpa Max are stuck in a rapidly descending ship. They turn to the RV, which Gwen isn't too happy about having to be in again.

On Mount Rushmore, Upgrade transforms into Ripjaws just as he reaches Theodore Roosevelt's face. He's not pleased about the switch, saying that sometimes he hates the watch. Despite the unwanted change, however, he does manage to climb to safety. Unfortunately, it dehydrates him to the point where he cant move. Vilgax jumps to the top of Mount Rushmore and prepares to crush Ripjaws. Luckily, he transforms into XLR8 at the last second. XLR8 tries to do a running attack on Vilgax, but he only succeeds in injuring himself and destroying a large line of rock in the process. He says that he's going to feel it tomorrow. Vilgax says that he won't have a tomorrow. After saying this, the cylinders on his arms glow and recede into his arms, increasing his muscle mass substantially. With a single attack directed at XLR8, Vilgax demolishes Theodore Roosevelt's face. XLR8 manages to dodge the attack, as well as several follow-up punches. XLR8 is caught when he tries to punch Vilgax, who grabs him and tosses him into a rock. Diamond Head emerges from the dust, firing diamond shards at Vilgax. He continues until he reaches Vilgax, at which point he begins punching at Vilgax's legs. He only succeeds in breaking his hands off. Vilgax grabs him and smashes him into the ground, cracking the crystal that makes up his face. He then tries to punch a hole through Diamond Head's chest as he begins to transform again. The punch connects, but Ghostfreak is the one it connects with, so it does nothing to him. Ghostfreak says that sometimes he loves the watch. Ghostfreak then phases through the ground as Vilgax's ship passes overhead.

As Vilgax's ship crashes, Grandpa Max is driving his way through the ship. He does this quite literally, actually breaking through several walls to make it to the ship's stern. Ghostfreak watches the crash take place. Gwen and Grandpa Max make it out, but not without causing major damage to the RV. They hear a crash in the back, which they assume to be Ben. In fact, Vilgax is at the front. Ghostfreak arrives slightly later to find the RV empty. After passing through it, he finds Vilgax holding Gwen and Grandpa Max. He then transforms into Wildmutt and roars. Vilgax offers him a choice between his family or the Omnitrix. Wildmutt chooses the former and surrenders. Vilgax drops his hostages and walks over to Wildmutt, deactivating the Omnitrix upon reaching him. He then takes Ben back to his crashed ship. Grandpa Max tries to warn against this, but Vilgax doesn't listen.

On Vilgax's ship, Vilgax thinks of Grandpa Max as foolish, until the computer tells him why Grandpa Max warned against boarding the ship. It seems that he has activated the self-destruct mechanism. Vilgax drops Ben and tries to shut it off. He fails, then screams "Tennyson," referring to Grandpa Max as the thorn in his side. He then gets blasted with Grandpa Max's weapon again, only this time with Ben as the one operating it. Ben says it must run in the family. The blast causes wreckage to fall on Vilgax, pinning him. Just before the ship explodes, Ben escapes by transforming into Heat Blast. Vilgax is left behind.

Gwen and Grandpa Max find Ben in a smoking crater, sitting calmly on a pillar in the middle of it. Gwen comments that his work isn't bad for a doofus. Ben just tells Grandpa Max they need to talk. All three then look to the sky as pieces of Vilgax's ship fall to the ground.

Spoilers end here.
