Secret of the Scarlet hand is the sixth game in the series of Nancy Drew computer games.

Nancy Drew has been recommended by a friend of her father's, Franklin Rose, and fortunately chosen to be the deputy curator of Beech Hill Museum located in Washington D.C. The museum is devoted to the Maya culture and will soon be exhibiting a monolith to the public. But shortly before the exhibition, one of the museum's most treasured pieces, a jade carving of the Mayan King Pacal's head, is stolen. Nancy been appointed to investigate the crime since the police can't seem to come up with any leads.

Joanna Riggs - Joanna is the curator of Beech Hill Museum.

Henrik van der Hune - Henrik is the epigrapher of Beech Hill Museum.

Taylor Sinclair - Taylor is an art dealer.

Alejandro del Rio - Alejandro is an attaché at Mexican Consulate.

Nurse Bluefoot - He is the nurse of Henrik van der Hune at Eleanor Roosevelt Hospital when Henrik gets amnesia. He is an unseen character.

Prudence Rutherford - Prudence is a woman who owns one of the Pacal jades and an unseen character.

Poppy Dada - She is an artist whose real name is Penelope Daddle. She is an unseen character.

Within Secret of the Scarlet Hand and other Nancy Drew computer games, there are a number of game-ending mistakes which can be made. The "Second Chance" option allows these mistakes to be corrected.

  • Getting electrocuted by HAM radio.
  • Dropping the calender stones.
  • Not using your glow stick to get out of the tunnel.

  • The Krolmeister brand is introduced for the first time as the company that created the SpectroX Archaeo-Analyzer. Throughout the Nancy Drew game series, Krolmeister is used as a generic manufacturer name such as Acme. The name was inspired by the Krebstar name from The Adventures of Pete and Pete television series and the game designer's friend, Paul Krol.
  • The voices of the game designer and scriptwriter are heard as the narrators of the audio tour.
  • The lamp on Sonny Joon's desk is an hommage to the Pixar short, Luxo Jr.
