The Secondary School for Law, Journalism and Research was formerly known as John Jay High School.

The campus is now divided into three public schools. The schools are The Secondary School for Law, The Secondary School for Journalism, and The Secondary School for Research.

The mission of the Secondary School for Law, Journalism and Research is to provide a comprehensive, college preparatory educational experience for students in District 15 in Brooklyn, New York. A challenging and enriching curriculum is intended to strengthen students' critical thinking as well as writing abilities. The instructional program will emphasize a hands-on discovery approach whereby students will investigate concepts through interdisciplinary project-based learning experiences[citation needed]. In addition to preparation for post-secondary study at prestigious universities across the country, students will be given invaluable real-life experiences through internships that will provide a transition to leadership roles in the corporate sector[citation needed]. The school will provide a nurturing academic learning environment for all students.
