[edit] rockfish age?
The article says that rockfish can live to be over 200. I've heard they are very long lived, but how does one tell how old a fish is?
- Like trees, you count the rings. Not literally cutting the fish in half, but bones and scales all grow rings that can be counted. In particular, the otoliths in the ear are good for that. Sabine's Sunbird talk 13:18, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Synonymy of Sebastes flammeus with Sebastes iracundus
Balanov et. al. (2004) demonstrated that Sebastes flammeus (Jordan & Starks, 1904) is a junior synonym of Sebastes iracundus (Jordan & Starks, 1904). Therefore, sink Sebastes flammeus into Sebastes iracundus.
