[edit] Role in series
Sebastian is an aide to Prime Minister Michael Stevens (played by Anthony Stewart Head), on whom he has a huge crush, although he denies it. Sebastian is obnoxious to anyone else the Prime Minister shows attention to, including his wife and other senior politicians. Sebastian often makes suggestive gestures to Michael, but the Prime Minister either never realises how infatuated his aide is with him or deliberately ignores Sebastian's advances. As the show progresses, Sebastian performs bigger and bolder stunts to show his love for the Prime Minister, such as kissing him on the lips at a party and singing Beautiful by Christina Aguilera in the House of Commons.
Sebastian frequently tells the Prime Minister that the person that he is talking to (for example, another minister) is in love with him and should be avoided. The Prime Minister never takes him seriously, but Sebastian sometimes turns out to be right.
Sebastian finally resigns when he discovers that the Prime Minister is retiring from politics. The person replacing Michael is the Chancellor of the Exchequer, who Sebastian hates because "he's too fat and Scottish". This is rather similar to the alleged deal of leadership between Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.
In the end the Prime Minister appears not to be straight; in the second-last episode he kisses his assistant, Gregory, and declares his love for him. In the last episode, when Sebastian takes his clothes off as a going away present, Michael reciprocates.
In the Little Britain Abroad special, Sebastian and Michael (who is once again Prime Minister) travel to the United States, where Michael seemingly has an illicit sexual encounter with the President of the United States. Despite his raging jealousy, Sebastian fails to notice the evidence of the affair.
[edit] Trivia
It is stated in the Little Britain Live programme guide that Sebastian Love boarded at Eton , where he shared a room with Prince Edward. A memorable moment in Sebastian's television career was on Question Time: Election Special when he "bitch-slapped" David Dimbleby for "being mean to Michael".
The character is often compared to Peter Mandelson and Alastair Campbell[citation needed].
Sebastian has a counterpart played by Matt Lucas named Marvin, who is an aide to the President of the United States. He too is a homosexual who is in love with his boss. The two aides have an argument about which of their crushes is better. Marvin reappears in the Little Britain Abroad Christmas special.
