[edit] Oil spill

Main article: Wabamun Lake

On August 3, 2005, 45 cars of a CN Rail train derailed on the shores of Wabamun Lake, near Wabamun, 14 miles (22.5 km) east of the village, spilling their contents of more than 700,000 litres (154,000 Imp gal) of a variety of fuel oils and pole treating oils into the lake. Much effort has been made to reverse the environmental effects of the spill. It is expected that there will be no adverse long term effects resulting from this spill.
