Archiving

CesarB, How did you archive all the first 136 sections in your talk page? Don't you dare say that you'll tell me only if I pay you $$$. My tildes are symbols like this:¬. --Sean gorter{talk with me}

See Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page (I used the cut-and-paste method). By the way, you can sign your posts using the third-to-last button in the toolbar just above the edit textarea (it'll add --~~~~ to the text for you, which will be converted to your signature preceded by two dashes). There's probably a key sequence on your keyboard which outputs a tilde; I've heard that on Spanish keyboards, for instance, it's AltGr+4. --cesarb 22:38, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Adminship thing, or whatever.

Just curious for later, how do you request to become an administrator? --Sean gorter{talk with me}22:11, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Requests for adminship and Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship. --cesarb 16:16, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza membership

Hi Sean, I reverted you a while ago when you added yourself to the list of Esperanza members, and I'm going to do the same thing again. We have a couple of membership requirements, and one of them is 150 edits - which you don't have yet. Sorry, don't worry though, you'll get them soon enough! --JoanneB 09:01, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Your edits

Sean, a lot of your recent contributions worry me. First of all, whatever you do, don't 'mess' with previous rfa pages. If you want to renonimate yourself, add a '2' to the pagename of the nomination, don't move the first one out of the way or blank it. Second, I don't think you're ready for adminship - at all. Most users don't become an admin before they have a few thousand edits, spread over several areas in Wikipedia - and most users are opposed until people in the wikipedia community have a sense that you have a good knowledge of Wikipedia policy. Third: warnings about images that you've uploaded should not be neglected, because if an image doesn't have the right tag, it will be deleted soon. --JoanneB 10:23, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

And please remember that vandalism of other people's talk pages is not acceptable! If you continue with edits like these you will be blocked for vandalism. --JoanneB 10:29, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Finding your way

Hi Sean, I see you're getting there but still finding out what wikipedia is all about. Don't take it personally that your request for adminship didn't work out - editors with thousands of edits over a long time don't get there. I think that you need to find a subject that interests you, find a related article and boldly edit. Try something non-controversial at first ( mine was Copper ) - or look through the todo listing on the Community Portal. Drop me a note, remove this note, edit an article or whatever - that's the fun of a wiki ! --Peripitus (Talk) 13:03, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Recent vandalism

Please do not add nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. --Conrad Devonshire Talk 06:40, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Adminship

If you were to give me advice, when were you to request adminship for yourself?--Sean gorter 13:35, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Sean, for myself I wouldn't consider it until i've been here a while longer ( only two months ) and had edited the site a lot more. More than this anyone looking at being an admin needs to appreciate that it's a janitorial role. People commonly discuss the mop, bucket and keys being the tools of a wikipedia admin and I've seen people decline an offer to run for adminship as that was not what they were here for. At the moment editing articles is too fun --Peripitus (Talk) 12:27, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Userboxes

How do you create a new userbox? -- Sean gorter

See Wikipedia:Userboxes#Designing_a_userbox for pointers or just copy and modify the source of any preexisting userbox template you already like. --  Netsnipe  (Talk)  08:15, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Userboxes in article space

New userboxes should probably be created in userspace, not article space. I have moved the userbox you just created to User:Sean gorter/user Wikipediholic-proud; feel free to rename it or transclude it from there. --ais523 08:56, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Signature transclusion

Hi Sean. Please stop using a transcluded template for your signature. You have already been asked politely to do this. Either add 'subst' to the start of it, please (like this: {{subst:User:Sean gorter/Signature}}), or change your signature in your preferences so it no longer uses a template. I will check back in a few days to make sure you are now doing this. Thanks, Proto///type 12:52, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

No, Sean, all I asked was for you to stop using a template as your signature. Proto///type 11:28, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Sean!

I noticed you failed to meet the entry requirements a while ago for Esperanza, but it looks to me as if you could now join!

If you are still interested, we'd be glad to welcome you- just re-read the requirements here and follow the instructions on the page!

I look forward to seeing you around!

Re: Ruby script

Well, I'm not sure what OS you're on, but you first need to install ruby if it isn't installed already, and you can get it at [1]. Then, you need to create a file with the script inside it, and save it as something.rb. You can name the file whatever you want, as that is insignificant. Then, you just follow the instructions over at the page where they are.--digital_me(TalkContribs) 13:40, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

That's the OS that I wrote the script on, so you should be able to get ruby installed with no problem (I reccomend the installer here, which should do it with minimal trouble.)--digital_me(TalkContribs) 01:32, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Sean gorter, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC Tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.
