The Sims 2: Seasons is the fifth expansion pack in The Sims 2 series of games. It was released on March 1, 2007 in North America, and was followed by the European release on March 2, 2007.[1] Sims are able to build snowmen in Winter, rake pesky leaves in Autumn, plant a greater selection of Spring flowers and get sunburnt and occasionally experience heatstroke in Summer. The included neighborhood, Riverblossom Hills, has new lots, Sims and storyline.

[edit] Seasons

The Sims 2 Seasons expansion pack introduces a whole new game play concept to The Sims 2 series: weather and seasons. Each season lasts for five Sim days and players have the option to alter their order of progression. Besides being a solely visual, interactive addition, each season enhances Sim's attributes in certain ways: summer improves their ability to build and attain relationships among friends, fall quickens their skill building and job promotion, winter helps to tighten family bonds, and spring augments romantic relationships.

[edit] Weather

There is weather within each season, including sunshine, light rain, hail, lightning storms, and snow. It was originally planned that weather would be in the original Sims 2 base game. However, a 3D rendering error prevented this from being possible: rain would fall into enclosed housing areas, and many other graphical rendering problems would occur.

[edit] Careers and activities

There are six new careers for Sims to choose from: Adventure, Gaming, Law, Music, Journalism, and Education. Sims can also grow their own vegetables, harvest fruit, and catch fish to sell, eat, or just mount it on their wall as a display. [1]

[edit] PlantSims

Players who have their Sims use pesticides over 15 times have a 10% chance of being transformed into "PlantSims." As a PlantSim, they gain a prank interaction, and can marry and have (or spawn) children. PlantSims produce normal babies through natural means, but spawning creates another Plantsim.[2] PlantSims gain gold gardening badges. They can be cured of PlantSimism by buying a potion from the Garden Club. A PlantSim's motives are also different than a normal Sim's. PlantSims have only 3 motives: Sunshine, Water, and Love. Sunshine is kept high by being in sunlight or under the greenhouse lights, water can be raised by drinking, or being in water (ie. shower, bath, rain, sprinkler), and the Love motive is equivalent to the Social need of normal Sims. PlantSims only have 3 life stages, toddler (if spawned by another PlantSim), adult and elder.

[edit] Objects and updates

As with the other The Sims 2 expansion packs, there are additional items, including a pool slide, skating rink, greenhouse, wishing well, and new country themed kitchen sets. A pool's corners can be rounded, instead of having a square shape, and the pool has reflections and can be customized (pool floors and walls can be changed). Also, a completely new feature is the ability to set hairstyles for different occasions. For example, in the Create a Sim, players can choose for their Sim a certain hairstyle for work, another one for gardening etc., without having to buy a mirror to change appearances. Sims have new "outerwear", also chosen in Create a Sim, for each season.

[edit] Music

This expansion packs contains New Age and Jambands genres. The New Age radio station uses all the original songs from The Sims original Buy and Build Mode, which can create a strong sense of nostalgia for those who played the first game. Simlish versions of songs from popular artists, including Lily Allen's hit U.K. single "Smile", "Mr. High And Mighty" by Government Mule, "Blue Jeans Pizza" by moe., "Zoom" by Tata Young, "N" by The Breadbox Band, "The Next One" by The Chris McCarty Band, "Close Your Eyes" by The String Cheese Incident, and "When It All Falls Apart" by The Veronicas are contained in the expansion. Inclusion of real songs by popular artists dates back to The Sims 2: University and have also been present in the Open For Business and Pets expansion packs.[3]

[edit] Included existing features

Features from the existing expansion packs such as the influence system (available in University), turn ons/turn offs (available from Nightlife upwards), lifetime wants (available from University upwards), pranks (available in University), fury (available in Nightlife), Mrs. Crumplebottom (also available in Nightlife) and talent badges (available from Open For Business) are available. Although the talent badges included in Open For Business are not available in the Seasons expansion pack, players can use them if both Open For Business and Seasons are installed.
