Seawat Foodtown Supermarkets began in 1948. They served the Northwest Ohio and Southwest Michigan areas. They were an independent grocer until being bought by Spartin Stores in 2000, along with their pharmacy chain, The Pharm. In 2003 Spartin Stores sold or closed all 39 of the Foodtown stores, as the areas second leading grocer left town.
