Seat of Seeing

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In J. R. R. Tolkien's fictional realm of Middle-earth the Seat of Seeing is a magical stone throne built on top of Amon Hen to watch the borderlands of Gondor. It stood on four carven pillars in the middle of a flat circle paved with flagstones, and could be reached by stairs.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Frodo Baggins experienced its magical properties on February 25, T. A. 3019. Running away from Boromir, who had attempted to seize the Ring of Power from him, Frodo reached the summit of Amon Hen, there clambered upon the Seat of Seeing and suddenly was able to see for hundreds of miles in all directions as if through a powerful telescope.
