Season (band)

Season were a post-rock band from Melbourne, Australia.
[edit] History
Bart Kowalski (drums) and James McGauran (guitar), had played together since 1995 in various forms under a different name. In 1998, the band changed its name to Season, with a lineup completed by David Charles (bass) and Marcin Zablocki (guitar). Zablocki left the band in the following year. The band had a short and very unsuccessful venture with a female vocalist in 2000 and consequentially began to develop material as an instrumental group. By 2001, the band had written a set of six songs, and decided to record three of them on a 22-minute EP by the name of 2,551,446 Seconds. Shortly afterward, in 2002, the band began to play in the Melbourne live circuit. Over the course of the next two years, the band would tour to New South Wales and around Melbourne. Two lengthy, mainly improvised single-song CDs, To Each Their Own and She Is Watching, of which 50 copies were printed each, were given away at two shows, the first, International Karate's launch for Weapons of Mass Protection, the latter at Solaris's EP launch. These releases were recorded by a single microphone in the corner of a rehearsal room, recording to minidisc. The band then recorded their debut album, Avatar, distributed by Low Transit Industries. This was followed by more touring to New South Wales, garnering a reasonable following in both Sydney and Melbourne. In 2005, the band recorded Static, and signed to Alone Again, owned and run by David Gagliardi, drummer for Melbourne post-rock band Laura. In late 2005, the song Within Without was lifted, in advance, from Static, on a limited edition tour single in support of a New South Wales tour. Due to administrative difficulties and creative differences, Season disbanded in February 2006, leaving Static unreleased. Following the breakup, all of Season's releases, barring Avatar were available to download on their website, until the band decided not to renew the domain name. Avatar was available, free, from select stores throughout Australia until it sold out in these stores shortly afterwards. The band still remain in possession of around one hundred unsold copies of the album.
After the breakup Bart Kowalski continued to play with other band Subnormal, and James McGauran with members and ex-members of The Grand Silent System, Clann Zu and Oneironaut in The Black Hundred.
