He was born in Paisley, Scotland and studied his Highers (A-levels) at Castlehead High School. Seán left Scotland in 2000 to head south and study Meteorology at Reading University.

After finishing at Reading University Seán began working for the Met Office as a weather observer at the school of Army Training at an airbase called Middle Wallop, which is close to Andover in Hampshire. He worked at the base for over a year before moving into the media/met world by working with the ITV weather team preparing TV weather graphics and maps for various customers such as S4C, UTV (Ulster Television) and, of course, ITV.
