[edit] Overview

The music of Sculptured is experimental in its style, mixing classic death and doom metal riffs and vocals to atonal segments and unexpected brass sections. This is particularly evident on the first track of Apollo Ends, "Washing my Hands of It". The band also introduces classical orchestrations in some of its pieces.

Vocalists Don Anderson and Brian Yager alternate growled and clean vocals.

The history and fate of Sculptured is inherently related to that of another folk/doom metal band, Agalloch. In fact, with the release of Ashes Against The Grain in August 2006, the future of the band was quite uncertain. Members have since then confirmed a new opus was in the process of being recorded [1]

[edit] New material for 2007

While the band has not had a new release since 2000, a new full-length album entitled Embodiment is in the works and should be released through the band's label, The End Records. Members of the band have commented on the new album:

Taking their influence from the musical iconoclast and prankster Charles Ives, Sculptured aims to upset death metal harmony and melody. Following in the heels of Rock in Opposition artists Henry Cow, and Dimension Hatröss-era Voivod, the band flats their fifths and sharps their sevenths for unlistenable and awkward chords.
