Scrumtrilescent
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Scrumtrilescent is a made-up word, originating from the Saturday Night Live skit Inside the Actor's Studio. In the skit, Will Ferrell portrays James Lipton, and is interviewing Charles Nelson Reilly, played by Alec Baldwin:
James Lipton: Nor, indeed, was the world...nor history...nor anything that the human eye has ever captured. When one thinks of CNR, one's mind goes right to Match Game. That show was delightful. No. No. It was brilliant. No, no, no, no. There is no word to describe its perfection, so I am forced to make one up. And I'm going to do so right now. Scrumtrilescent.
Charles Nelson Reilly: Oh my, that's a good word.
The word means "beyond perfection," or "intensely superb." It has become one of the most famous catch phrases on the show. The word was only applied to "Match Game" and Charles Nelson Reilly's performance in "Cannonball Run II".
Other Uses: Scrumtrilescence: Exuding the properties of something that is scrumtrilescent.
Popular culture: in the Homestar Runner minigame "Thy Dungeonman II", when the player names their character it says, "Ah yes. <name here>. A scrumtrilescent name.".
